AS I LOOK BACK ON MY LIFE

I've oft desired a video of scenes throughout my life;
Those happy, carefree days of youth, devoid of toil and strife.

I'd like to capture moments when I felt just like a belle,
And seemed to be a winner, for my life was going well.

I long to see that happy time when as a blushing bride,
I pledged to love and honor, with my sweetheart at my side.

I'd look at all the memories my children gave to me,
And all those precious baby days, I'd like again to see.

But I would leave out times I've sinned, and each unfinished test,
And all the times I've grieved my Lord, and failed to do my best.

I'd not include the sorrows and the sickness that I've known,
Or all the tears and heartaches when I've felt so all alone.

But as I look in retrospect at times of misery,
And all the sad unhappy days that formed life's canopy,

I realize that those were times when I felt faith restored,
When in my weakness I grew strong by leaning on the Lord.

If I had known no problems I might not have known God's care,
Or felt the need to linger close in fellowship and prayer.

So when I look back on my life, I'll thank God for each day
When life was sweet and beautiful, with troubles far away.

But I will also thank Him for the sad times I've been through,
Because they helped me learn to trust, and see what God could do.
