AN EASTER AWAKENING
When I was a child I thought Easter was fun,
With baskets of eggs in bright hues.
I always enjoyed the Easter Parade
Of new dresses, new suits, hats and shoes.
It wasn't until I met Jesus one day
And saw my own heart stained with sin,
That with true repentance I fell at His feet,
And begged my dear Lord to come in.
Then I finally saw with my tear-blinded eyes
The price my sweet Lord paid for me;
And how much He had suffered to die in my place,
So I from sin's guilt could be free.
Now Easter is filled with new meaning for me,
For Jesus arose on that day,
And swallowed up death in victorious life,
While taking my sins all away.
The blood drops He shed and the thorn-crown He wore,
The mocking, and scourging, and pain,
Bring tears to my eyes as I think of His gift
That erased from my life every stain.
And that's why my favorite season of all,
Is one that brings peace to my soul.
And why I'll praise God for that first Easter day
As the years of eternity roll.
