~ THE BATTLE ~

I've made a lot of New Year's resolutions,
And some have not survived a single day.
Although I've had the highest of intentions,
They've somehow seemed to slowly slip away.

And endless are new leaves that I've turned over,
While planning for a spotless year ahead,
And worrying about things in the future,
With problems I anticipate and dread.

I've carried lots of weight upon my shoulders,
While searching for solutions on my own,
And sunk into the throes of deep depression,
Remembering the failures I have known.

But when at last I turned in deep contrition,
And sought the Lord's forgiveness for my sin,
I found that He would lift the heavy burden,
And give me peace and comfort once again.

He tells me not to fret about tomorrow,
But trust that He'll supply my needs each day.
The more that I surrender to His leading,
The more I am victorious in the fray.
