JUST AVERAGE FOLKS

The Lord doesn’t look for the famous and strong
To work in His rich harvest field,
But He chooses the weak, plain and average folks,
Who are willing and ready to yield.
An average virgin named Mary He chose
As the mother of Jesus on earth.
Completely she yielded her heart to His will,
As she waited the time of His birth.

An average fisherman gave up his nets
To follow the Lord at His call,
And Peter has blessed generations of souls
Who have learned to give Jesus their all.
An average stammerer thought he could not
Be used for the work that God asked,
But still God chose Moses to rescue His sheep,
And provided the strength for the task.

The world is still full of such average folks
Who have heard and obeyed God’s command,
And many will suffer and die for their faith,
As they willingly cling to His hand.
We serve such a great and exceptional God,
Yet He wants to use you, and use me –
Just average folks, whose small gifts that we yield,
Will survive all the ages to be.
